Athletics: Rickey Henderson's three singles moved him past Jim Ryan and into 67th place on the career list with 2,579 hits. Ernie Banks is next with 2,583. Jimmy Haynes has not allowed a homer in his last 31 innings. Haynes has not won since April 4, with one loss and five no-decisions in his past six starts.

Devil Rays: Tampa Bay switched its starters for the Orioles series, with Tony Saunders going tomorrow and Dennis Springer Saturday. Catcher John Flaherty was 0-for-4, making him hitless in his last 30 at-bats.

Red Sox: A win would have given Boston its best start, 22-9, since 1946. When Scott Hatteberg threw out the Twins' Matt Lawton attempting to steal in the first inning, it was the sixth time in eight tries he had caught a runner attempting to steal. He failed on the first 13 tries of the season.

Royals: Dan Quisenberry, who led the majors in saves from 1979-85, will be inducted into the Royals Hall of Fame during on-field ceremonies on May 30 prior to the Oakland game. Quisenberry underwent surgery on Jan. 8 for a malignant brain tumor.
