St. Mary's second-half surge upends Washington & Lee, 11-8

Ninth-seeded St. Mary's, powered by three three-goal scorers -- Gia Trionfo (Loch Raven), Kari Meyer (Centennial) and Melissa Moore -- advanced past eighth seed Washington & Lee, 11-8, in the first round of the NCAA Division III women's lacrosse tournament in Lexington, Va.

The Seahawks broke a 4-4 halftime tie with a 7-4 scoring run. St. Mary's scored six of the first seven goals of the second half to take a 10-5 lead with 7: 06 left.

Whitney Parker scored twice to pull the Generals within three -- 10-7 with 4: 30 left, but no closer.

Ginny Jernigan made 14 saves for Washington & Lee, six more than St. Mary's Tara Jensen (Broadneck.)

The Seahawks face the College of New Jersey (12-0) in Sunday's quarterfinal in Trenton, N.J.
