Two Western Maryland College students were released from custody yesterday after being arrested Saturday night when the school's annual spring festival grew rowdy and a crowd of about 300 revelers refused to leave the campus "quad."

Lynda Oxley, 20, of Cherry Hill, N.J., was released yesterday on $3,000 bail after spending the night at the Carroll County Detention Center, said the jail's Sgt. William Monaghan.

Westminster police charged Oxley with second-degee assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after she allegedly kicked a police dog.

Shawn Healey, 21, of Owings in Calvert County was released from police custody Saturday night after his arrest for failing to obey police orders, said police Cpl. Michael Gromley.

Joyce Muller, spokeswoman for the college, said yesterday that the disturbance was "quite unusual" for the campus.

"I think there were more students who were drinking more than they should have been," she said, noting that when she arrived at the campus by 8 p.m, "things were calmed down."
