Hot Clune, Towson roll past Vermont Towson women advance to America East title game

Matt Clune collected four goals and three assists as Towson defeated host Vermont, 20-4, in an America East game.

The Tigers (5-7, 3-2) jumped ahead 8-2 after one quarter and scored 10 consecutive goals, covering the second and third periods, to push their lead to 18-2.

Josh Cornick added three goals and Spencer Ford scored a goal and three assists for Towson.

Washington College 18, Western Maryland 8: The Shoremen outscored the Green Terror, 10-3, over the middle periods on their way to a Centennial Conference win in Chestertown.

Michael Wilson had three goals and Tyler Gilbert added two goals and two assists for Washington College (10-4, 5-1).

Rob Witte led Western Maryland (5-9, 3-3) with three goals and three assists.

The Shoremen had their largest lead, 14-7, after a goal by Justin McCarthy with 11: 16 left in the final quarter.

St. Mary's 20, Randolph-Macon 8: Nate Costa had four goals and two assists as the Seahawks (10-5) blitzed the host Yellow Jackets (8-7). St. Mary's took control with a five-goal run early on, with Costa scoring three times.

Women

Towson 16, Hofstra 11: Jessica Weissman scored a career-high four goals as the host Tigers (8-8) advanced to their third consecutive America East championship game.

Towson used a 4-1 scoring run in the final 11 minutes to pull away.

Towson faces 12th-ranked and defending conference champion Delaware in the title game at 1 p.m. today at Minnegan Stadium.

Western Maryland 16, Susquehanna 7: Natalie Hannibal's four goals helped the host Green Terror (9-6) halt a three-game losing streak.

Western Maryland never trailed and got three goals and four assists from Courtney Boden.

Goucher 14, Frostburg State 13: The Bobcats (6-7) failed to convert two free-position shots in the final seven seconds as the Gophers (7-8) held on for a non-conference win.

Senior Kristin Carey led Goucher with five goals and four assists.
