Walter Henry Hereth, who owned a heavy equipment repair and welding business, died of a heart attack Thursday at home in Woodbine. He was 47.
Known as Hank, Mr. Hereth was founder and owner of Hereth Enterprises. He was also an expert carpenter.
Born and raised in Simpsonville, he was a 1968 graduate of Glenelg High School. He served as a cook in the Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971 and was discharged with the rank of corporal.
His marriage to the former Betty Jane Fisher ended in divorce.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 16457 Old Frederick Road, Poplar Springs.
He is survived by three sons, Marc Hereth, Sean Hereth and James Ryan Hereth, all of Woodbine; his mother, L. Sibbald Hereth of Woodbine; three brothers, Charles James Hereth of Waterford, N.Y., and Edward Hereth and Wilbur Hereth, both of Woodbine; three sisters, Ann Williams of Prescott, Ariz., and Ellen Miller and May Jones, both of Woodbine; and two adopted sisters, Anita Maust of Chester, N.J., and Margaret "Meg" Hertz of Landenberg, Pa.; and a special friend, Lynn P. Moore of Woodbine.
