The United Way Community Partnership of Carroll County has received $303,479 in pledges for this year's fund-raising campaign, a 19 percent increase over last year.
The figures are an estimate of campaign totals as of Wednesday. Robin Saul, campaign chairman, said he expects other individuals and businesses to contribute within the next few weeks.
Highlights of Carroll County business pledges include:
Taneytown Bank & Trust Co., which pledged more than $7,500.
Successful first-time campaigns included: Farmers & Merchants Bank; Billingslea Insurance; Knight's Insurance; St. John Roman Catholic School; Carroll Land Services; Marada Industries Inc.; Master Power; Fairhaven; Peebles Department Store; Children's Farm Nursery; Shelter Systems; Rape Crisis Intervention Center; and the Community Foundation of Carroll County.
Big Shot Video Productions sponsored a golf tournament that raised $6,500.
Pizza Hut donated the proceeds from a promotion to the campaign.
Incentives were offered for first-time contributors, businesses and individuals giving $1,000 or more. The Baltimore Orioles donated 20,000 baseball caps for new contributors giving at least $1 per week or current contributors increasing their donation by $1 through payroll deductions.
The United Way Community Partnership of Carroll County links United Way of Central Maryland to Carroll County residents, providing support for meeting the county's human services needs.
