American Girls fashions

Young fans of the American Girls Collection will be thrilled at seeing six of their favorite characters come to life in a fashion show Saturday. The American Girls Fashion Show will feature local girls modeling clothes inspired by the six characters in the children's book series.

The fashion show includes refreshments, party favors and raffles of seven dolls from the American Girls Collection. The Junior League of Baltimore sponsors the event at the Omni Inner Harbor Hotel. Proceeds benefit the JLB's community projects and programs for children and families at risk.

The fashion show takes place at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday at the Omni Inner Harbor Hotel, 101 W. Fayette St. Tickets are $20. Raffle tickets are $1 and can be purchased at the door or by calling 410-296-0748.

Thirty cultures

It really is a small world after all. This weekend, you can explore cultures from near and far as they converge at the Ethnic Heritage Festival at Essex Community College. More than 30 countries will present their foods, entertainment and cultural displays and exhibits.

There will be singing and dancing, exotic delicacies, hand-crafted items and gifts and the unique culture of ethnic groups including Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, German, Vietnamese, Indian, Greek and Italian. Performances will be offered by different groups on both Saturday and Sunday. The Baltimore Symphonic Band will present a performance Sunday at 5: 30 p.m. And both days an international beer garden will offer more choices than beer lovers ever dreamed possible. Come and get a taste of what life is like around the world.

The Ethnic Heritage Festival will take place noon-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the College Community Center of Essex Community College, 7201 Rossville Blvd. Tickets are $4; free for ages under 12 with an adult. Call 410-780-6572.
