Involvement goes a long way toward making a nice !c community

AN ITEM in last week's column gave the wrong information number for the county Department of Recreation and Parks' liberal arts programs for children.

The correct number is 410-222-7300.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

It is the time of year when community organizations resume their monthly meetings. Why not make this the year you become involved?

Everyone likes to live in a nice community, but it takes work to make the community as nice as you want it. So find out what you can do to help. It doesn't take that much effort, and everyone will benefit.

The Olde Brooklyn Park Improvement Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Brooklyn Park Elementary School, 200 14th Ave. The speaker will be Larry Tolliver, the county police chief. Topics for discussion will include the latest on the Brooklyn Park shopping center, the renovation of the old Brooklyn Park High School auditorium for the performing arts and the water system upgrade for the area.

Membership dues of $5 per family per year will be collected. If you can't attend any meetings, join the association and show your support.

North County flea market

North County High School PTSA puts on its semi-annual indoor flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 8 at the school, 10 E. 1st Ave. Tables are available for just $15 and can be reserved by calling Vicki Zephyr at 410-761-3935.

Sunday School Rally Day

You are invited to attend Sunday School Rally Day at 9: 45 a.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church, 226 Washburn Ave. Meet the staff and students for the 1997-1998 program year. Fifth-graders will be presented with Bibles, and students will be assigned to their new classes.

Classes are available for ages 3 through adults.

The Rev. Joseph Lettrich will offer a new-members class from 9: 45 a.m. to 10: 45 a.m. today for anyone interested in joining.

Information: 410-355-7295.

Back-to-School Night

Parents are invited to attend Back-to-School Night at Lindale/Brooklyn Park Middle School Tuesday.

The PTA and CAC will meet at 6: 30 p.m. in the auditorium, and the back-to-school session starts at 7 p.m. Parents can visit their children's homerooms, then follow their schedules to meet teachers.

Information: 410-691-4344.

Count those shopping days

Has it occurred to you that Christmas is less than 15 weeks away? For an easy and well-received present, purchase the entertainment books being sold by North County High School band members. The $35 cost entitles you to discounts all around Baltimore and Ocean City.

Information: 410-222-6970.

Parents are invited to the Band Boosters meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the band room.

How about a free car wash? Band members will be washing cars from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Roy Rogers restaurants at Cromwell Field Shopping Center and at Burwood Plaza, both on Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard. Even though the wash is free, donations will be accepted.

Arts, crafts teachers sought

Do you like working with children or have a skill that you could share with your neighbors?

The Department of Recreation and Parks is looking for teachers for arts and crafts classes, fun and games, enrichment courses and sports.

This is a part-time position and most classes take place in the evenings. If you are interested, call Howard Smith at 410-222-7300.
