No. 1 St. Mary's rides Listman to 31-8 victory over Palotti


Senior fullback Ernie Listman rushed 14 times for 102 yards and scored three touchdowns last night as No. 1-ranked St. Mary's whipped host Palotti, 31-8, in the opener for both teams.

Listman rushed for scores of 9 and 4 yards, and caught a 49-yard touchdown from quarterback Ryan Metzbower, who completed 7 of 9 passes for 139 yards.

Listman and Rob Hoffman each racked up 10 tackles and two sacks as St. Mary's defense did not allow a score until late into the fourth quarter.

No. 8 Poly 30, Fallston 0: Running back Tim Frazier scored on touchdown runs of 9 and 3 yards, and Charles Haywood rushed 10 times for 60 yards as Poly ripped visiting Fallston in both teams' openers.

No. 9 Hereford 56, Towson 20: The host Bulls (1-0) amassed 393 rushing yards to wallop the Generals (0-1). Jason Wingeart gained 135 yards with two touchdowns on eight carries, and Jason Murphy added 110 yards and a score on eight rushes. Rob Collins scored three touchdowns and gained 62 yards on six carries for Hereford.

No. 10 Annapolis 28, Largo 7: Senior running back Albert Creek ran for 116 yards on 14 carries and scored a touchdown for the host Panthers (1-0).

No. 11 Aberdeen 19, Oakland Mills 0: Junior running back J.D. Dyson rushed 11 times for 81 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown, and the Eagles (1-0) scored 13 points in the first quarter. Chuck Faison added 60 yards on just three carries for the Eagles.

No. 12 North County 21, Westminster 0: Senior quarterback Mike Parks completed 15 of 23 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, both to Paul Brown, who made seven grabs for 144 yards as the Knights (1-0) romped over the visiting Owls.

No. 14 Patterson 22, Northwestern 6: Junior running back Brian Hopson rushed 13 times for 73 yards and Brenden Williams rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown, and made 10 tackles to power the host Clippers (1-0). Allen Clay returned an interception 20 yards for a Patterson score.

No.15 Wilde Lake 34, Franklin 8: Tyrone Gholston scored Franklin's (0-1) only points, a 45-yard interception return and a two-point conversion, with seven minutes left in the game.
