New Haven's Vavrek strikes out 15 to power Ravens past Baysox, 5-1 Minor leagues

Michael Vavrek struck out 15 batters and walked none last night to lead the host New Haven Ravens to a 5-1 win over the Bowie Baysox in a Double-A Eastern League game last night.

Vavrek allowed just three hits -- all doubles -- including an RBI two-base hit by Eugene Kingsale in the third.

New Haven (59-70) scored all its runs in the sixth, four off starter Joel Bennett, who struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings.

Bowie fell to 70-60 and remained in second place in the South Division.

Cannons 4-6, Keys 2-3: Host Prince William roughed Billy Percibal for four runs on six hits in the first game, and Dan Reed for six runs on nine hits in the second to sweep Frederick in a Single-A Carolina League doubleheader.

Jason LeCronier led the Keys (22-39) with a 2-for-3 effort in the first game. Frederick managed three hits in the finale.

Shorebirds 3-0, Alley Cats 1-5: Delmarva limited Charleston (W.Va.) to two hits in the first game of a doubleheader but was held to three in the nightcap as the teams split a Single-A South Atlantic League doubleheader.

The split left the Shorebirds (31-29) three games behind the Alley Cats for the Northern Division lead.

Tim DeCinces homered in the first game for Delmarva, and Abraham Hacen struck out eight batters in five innings to improve to 7-5.
