Gamecocks, Jayhawks are on menu for Terps

THE BALTIMORE SUN

For the University of Maryland's men's basketball team to receive a school-record fifth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, it must not only survive the traditional Atlantic Coast Conference schedule but must play well against four strong non-conference teams.

The South Carolina Gamecocks will be the season opener in the Black Coaches Association Classic in Minneapolis on Nov. 14 in a game televised by ESPN. Clemson will be the ACC opener on Dec. 4 in Clemson, S.C.

Coach Roy Williams will bring his Kansas Jayhawks to the new MCI Center in Washington to meet the Terps in an afternoon game on Dec. 7 in the Franklin National Bank Classic.

The Terps will hit the road to visit Missouri on Dec. 30 and will serve as hosts for Temple on Feb. 28 at the Baltimore Arena in a game that concludes the Terps' regular season.

The ACC tournament will be in Greensboro, N.C., on March 5-8.
