Mariners update

Seattle is locked in a fierce battle with Anaheim for the AL West lead. The Orioles will get their first look at McDonogh grad Ken Cloude. They'll also face Johnson for the third time this year. The Big Unit gave up five earned runs and struck out 10 in six innings to absorb a rain-delayed, 13-3 loss on May 8 here. He didn't get the decision in Seattle's 8-7 loss on May 18, allowing four runs and walking eight in five innings. Chris Hoiles has homered twice off Johnson this year and has 10 RBIs in the two games Johnson has started. Orioles pitching will have to weather another hot spell from Ken Griffey, who hit his 37th homer Tuesday, but overall the Mariners' offense is struggling, with three hits in two of the weekend games against the White Sox. Jay Buhner is in a 4-for-26 slump since Aug. 2. These teams split two games in Seattle last week.
