The Howard County Conservancy, a private land trust in Woodbine, has hired its first full-time director and elected four board members to serve three-year terms.
The conservancy, which was established in 1990, holds easements that preserve about 900 acres of farmland, mostly in the western end of the county, and maintains about 300 acres of Mount Pleasant on Old Frederick Road, which was deeded to the group about four years ago.
Gretchen Shuey of Catonsville, a recent graduate of Utah State University, will be the group's director, coordinating fund-raisers and organizing programs.
The board members are: Joyce Kelly of Ellicott City, co-founder of the group who is president of the board; Glen Cole of Owings Mills; Caleb Gould of Laurel; and Ned Tillman of Ellicott City.
