Hits and misses

On the field: Don't be fooled by the score. The Orioles experienced base-running follies en route to their second consecutive shutout. Lenny Webster was nearly picked off first base in the second inning. Cal Ripken was nearly picked off second in the seventh. (Actually, replays showed that he was picked off but second base umpire Lazaro Diaz blew the call.) Finally, Brady Anderson was picked off second in the eighth inning down 3-0. The pickoff was Blue Jays starter Pat Hentgen's seventh this season.

In the dugout: Davey Johnson appears to have designated Mike Mussina as staff Moose. Mussina endured a season-high 131 pitches while walking a career-high six. Mussina also owns two of the staff's three complete games. Mussina cleared only 6 2/3 innings and saw his eight-game win streak vanish.
