On the field: Mike Bordick was walked intentionally with B. J. Surhoff on third base and two outs in the fifth inning, bringing up pitcher Scott Erickson to face former Cy Young Award winner Tom Glavine. The result was predictable: Erickson struck out for the second time in a mismatch worthy of a Don King promotion.
In the dugout: Davey Johnson went back to his National League managing roots in the eighth inning by pulling a triple switch. Johnson brought in Armando Benitez from the bullpen, but with the pitcher due to lead off the next inning, he also inserted Roberto Alomar at second -- batting in the pitcher's spot -- and moved Jeff Reboulet to shortstop, replacing Bordick.
In the clubhouse: "I'm sure that's a classic. He's something. I used to run out there many times on Boomer." -- Johnson, on former Orioles pitcher David Wells being ejected while batting during Saturday's game between the New York Yankees and Florida Marlins.
