Baysox top Aeros behind Shepherd Minor leagues

Johnny Isom went 3-for-5 and Bryan Bogle added a two-run homer yesterday as the visiting Bowie Baysox beat the Akron Aeros, 6-3, in a Double-A Eastern League game.

Bowie starting pitcher Alvie Shepherd (5-1) went five innings, and Matt Snyder pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn his 10th save.

Alley Cats 7, Shorebirds 4: Visiting Charleston (W.Va.) raced to a 7-0 lead, then held off Delmarva to win a Single-A South Atlantic League game.

Avalanche 3, Keys 1: Salem (Va.) got to starting pitcher Jason Rogers for three runs in three innings and held on for a Single-A Carolina League win.

Jim Foster went 2-for-3 for the Keys (37-25), whose Northern Division lead fell to three games over Lynchburg (Va.).

Frederick pitchers Francisco Hernandez (0-3, 1.85 ERA), Dan Reed (7-3, 3.35), catcher Jim Foster (.333 batting average, 11 home runs) and second baseman David Lamb (.261) were named to the Carolina League all-star team yesterday.
