Baysox slip past New Haven, 6-5


Pinch hitter Howie Clark singled in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and the Bowie Baysox beat the visiting New Haven Ravens, 6-5, in a Double-A Eastern League game last night.

Clark's single drove in Wady Almonte from third. Almonte had also singled home a run in the Baysox three-run sixth.

Chris Curtis (1-0) pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief for the win. Matt Snyder recorded his fourth save, pitching 2 1/3 hitless innings.

Shorebirds 8, Crocs 1: Resurgent Delmarva -- paced by Ryan Minor's 3-for-4 effort -- pounded out 12 hits against visiting Cape Fear in a Single-A South Atlantic League game.

The Shorebirds (16-14), which won for the sixth consecutive game, pulled within 1 1/2 games of the Northern Division-leading Crocs (17-12).

Reliever Maximo Heredia (2-0) pitched five scoreless innings. John Parrish allowed one run in four innings in his first professional start.
