Residents favor community pool

Of the nearly 200 Sykesville residents who responded to a survey, 170 favor building a community swimming pool. Only 24 are opposed to the project, town officials say.

Many residents said they would be willing to pay annual membership fees or as much as $350 a family to help pay for the pool.

"Now all we have to do is find a spot and, until we do, we can't go any farther with this," said Councilman Bill Hall. "We would like to use land the town already owns."

Mayor Jonathan S. Herman prefers a nearly 2-acre site along Sandosky Road, north of Main Street.

Herman said he plans to contact other towns that have built community pools. He will set up a work session with volunteers and possibly with pool designers.
