Listen to lyrical melodies and lush harmonies with strong rhythm when Magical Strings -- Celtic harp and dulcimer duo Philip and Pam Boulding -- stop in Easton tomorrow on the group's tour of the eastern United States. The program will include samples of the couple's recently released ninth album, "Islands Calling," featuring not only Celtic influences but also songs inspired by islands -- Ireland, Madagascar, Jamaica, the Bahamas and Hawaii.
The concert starts at 8 p.m. in the Historic Avalon Theater, 40 E. Dover St. Tickets are $10. Call 410-479-0132.
It's Maple Time in Pennsylvania's Somerset County, and the community of Meyersdale will celebrate the occasion with Pennsylvania's 50th Annual Maple Festival for two weekends. Activities will be held in three locations: Festival Park, Meyers Avenue in Meyersdale; the Somerset County Fairgrounds, about 1 mile from Meyersdale; and downtown Meyersdale.
Enjoy arts and crafts, listen to country fiddlers, bluegrass singers and other entertainers, square dance, visit a country store, an old-time doctor's office and antique cobbler shop. There's also plenty of food, maple sugar demonstrations, a carnival with a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round and other rides and a Civil War encampment.
The festival will be held Saturday and Sunday and April 25-27. Enjoy a one-day rail excursion from Washington with the Maple Sugar Special April 26. Admission is $5 for adults; $1 for children 12 and under. For a complete schedule of festival events, call 814-634-0213; for the train excursion, call 703-273-8440.
