Suspect charged in car crash into village center pub

An east Columbia man was charged last week with smashing his car into Michael's Pub in the Kings Contrivance Village Center, fleeing, then threatening county police with knives when they came to his home investigating the incident.

Christopher Paul Mullins, 29, of the 9000 block of Early April Way in Kings Contrivance village was charged Friday with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, possession of a deadly weapon and other charges.

Police said that shortly after midnight Thursday, someone drove a car onto the sidewalk at the village center, struck the pub, pulled up to the front door, then drove away.

Police found the car and Mullins at his nearby home. He picked up several knives and advanced on officers, who subdued him with pepper spray and arrested him shortly after 2 a.m., police said.

Mullins was released from the Howard County Detention Center after posting $10,000 bail, according to a District Court clerk.
