My office pool says "The English Patient," Tom Cruise, Frances McDormand, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lauren Bacall and Anthony Minghella. On with the show.
"The Barbara Walters Special" (8 p.m.-9 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- Lauren Bacall, Woody Harrelson and Harrison Ford discuss what sorts of trees they'd like to be in Ms. Walters' annual pre-Oscar chatfest. (Personally, I'd love to hear the regal Bacall handle that question). ABC.
"The Jeff Foxworthy Show" (8 p.m.-8: 30 p.m. and 8: 30 p.m.-9 p.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- Two chances (both repeats) to see how irritating this show can be. First, Jeff and the townsfolk plan a funeral for a dog, then singer Tim McGraw guest stars as a Hatfield to Foxworthy's McCoy (feuding families, you know). NBC.
"Malcolm and Eddie" (8: 30 p.m.-9 p.m., WNUV, Channel 54) -- In a repeat, Richard Pryor shows up as Eddie's Uncle Bucky (not to be confused with the "Uncle Buck" John Candy played in the 1989 film). UPN.
"The 69th Annual Academy Awards" (9 p.m.-when it's over, probably close to midnight, WMAR, Channel 2) -- Billy Crystal returns as host. Among the planned highlights is a tribute to choreographer Michael Kidd, who's receiving an honorary Oscar. If for no other reason, tune in to see what all the beautiful, rich people are renting or borrowing to wear, and to see which of the awards you most vehemently disagree with (like Elaine on "Seinfeld," maybe you found watching "The English Patient" akin to enduring a root canal). ABC.
"The Spy Who Came in From the Cold" (8 p.m.-10 p.m.), "Sea Wolf" (10 p.m.-midnight), "Mourning Becomes Electra" (midnight-3 a.m.) and "I Remember Mama" (3 a.m.-5: 30 a.m., TCM) -- Turner's "31 Days of Oscar" celebrates the big night with films starring acclaimed actors who never won the big prize. "Spy" stars Richard Burton (0-for-7), while "Wolf" features Edward G. Robinson (never even nominated) and "Mama" Irene Dunne (0-for-5). "Electra" features a quartet of big-name losers: Rosalind Russell (0-for-4), Michael Redgrave (0-for-1), Kirk Douglas (0-for-3) and Raymond Massey (0-for-1).
