Comcast Cablevision appoints Alexander, Ortman and Trask

Comcast Cablevision announced the following appointments for its Baltimore metropolitan systems: Michael R. Alexander, area director of business operations; Michael V. Ortman, area director of marketing; and Richard M. Trask Jr., director of technology.

Alexander, an MBA graduate of the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia, will oversee the daily business operations for the company's Baltimore metropolitan area.

He was formerly a director of business, planning and control with the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp.

Ortman will develop marketing campaigns and assist in customer education.

Recently elected president of the Washington-Baltimore Cable Council, he was a principal in the consulting firm of Ortman Communications LLC before joining the area cable company.

Trask, who was formerly a sales and design systems engineer for Fujitsu Network Communications, will supervise Comcast's technology deployment in the three metropolitan counties it serves.

Channel 2 names Porter '2 the Point' producer

WMAR-TV, Channel 2, has named Cheron Porter as a public affairs assistant and producer of the station's minority affairs program, "2 the Point."

Before joining the Baltimore ABC affiliate, the James Madison University graduate was communications outreach coordinator for the Liberty Health System. She had interned at the Washington bureau of CNN.

Patrick appointed by Mullin/Ashley

Mullin/Ashley Associates, the Warton-based integrated market and communications firm, has selected Stephen Patrick as production manager.

He will have responsibility for pre-planning, scheduling and quality control as well as overseeing all production aspects of client projects, including print and electronic elements.

Formerly with the Annapolis firm of Whitmore Print & Imaging, the Washington College graduate resides in Chestertown.

Nicholson joins Fidelity & Guaranty

Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Co. named Timothy C. Nicholson to the new position of vice president and chief marketing officer.

He will develop and implement all sales and marketing programs.

Before joining the Baltimore- based insurer, he was president and CEO of GenMark, the sales and marketing subsidiary of the General American Life Insurance Co.

He earlier was CEO of Walnut Street Securities and president of CIGNA Asset Advisors.

Banking & Finance

Barnes to vice presidency at Provident Bank

Provident Bank of Maryland announced that Rahn Barnes was appointed vice president andcommunity relations manager.

Among his new responsibilities will be coordinating bank-community activities and acting as the bank's Community Reinvestment Act officer.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina, the Perry Hall resident was recently manager of the bank's community lending department.

He has been in the finance industry 17 years.

Health Care

Sheppard Pratt appoints chief administrator

Sheppard Pratt Health System announced the selection of James P. Hackett as vice president and chief administrative officer, with responsibility for the daily operation of the Towson-based mental health facility.

Most recently he had been vice president of hospital operations for Charter Medical Corp.

He is an MBA graduate of Xavier University.

CareCard appoints William Shields

CareCard, the prescription-management company of NeighborCare, appointed William G. Shields as vice president of administration and operations.

He will have responsibility for all sales and marketing functions as well as all aspects of customer prescription benefit program administration, including plan selection, benefit choices and information management.

A pharmacy graduate of Union University, he has an MBA from the College of St. Rose.
