Fairfield hands Loyola 3rd loss in row, 62-48

Cindy O'Connor scored a career-best 15 points and Bridget Cleary added 14 off the bench as Fairfield defeated Loyola, 62-48, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game yesterday at Reitz Arena.

The Greyhounds (8-18, 5-8), who have lost three in a row, will be seeded fifth in Friday's MAAC tournament first round, facing No. 4 seed Canisius at 7: 45 p.m.

Fairfield (18-8, 11-3), which forced 24 turnovers, clinched the second seed and will meet seventh-seeded Niagara.

Buffalo 85, Coppin State 47: Charissa Gardner scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the first half as Buffalo (21-5) toppled visiting Coppin State (7-17).

Coppin State, which made only 12 field goals in the game, shot 21 percent (4-for-19) in the first half while the Royals shot 65 percent (17-for-26) and took a 41-18 lead into the break.

Celena Falline led Coppin with nine points and five rebounds and Stephanie Ready added seven points.
