-- Assault and robbery: A man was walking in the 1500 block of Havenwood Road yesterday afternoon when he was approached another man who asked him if he had marijuana. Before the victim could reply, he was struck on the jaw by the assailant. Four or five other men then beat and kicked the victim, who was robbed of $20 in currency and a roll of quarters worth $10.
Theft from auto: A woman parked her 1993 Dodge car in the 5100 block of Wright Ave. between 6: 30 p.m. and 7: 10 p.m. yesterday. When she returned to the car, she discovered that someone had broken into it and stolen a compact laptop computer valued at $2,600 that was on the floor and a Motorola cellular phone valued at $180.
Attempted stolen auto: Someone attempting to steal a 1993 Chrysler van parked in the 1200 block of 35th St. damaged a lock and the ignition.
Armed Robbery: Two men, one wearing a ski mask, walked into a grocery store about 4: 30 p.m. Tuesday in the 4700 block of Frederick Road and fired three shots into a plastic glass window then announced a holdup. Police said no one was injured, but the robbers escaped with money.
Burglary: Someone broke into a business in the 1200 block of Hull St. between 10 a.m. and 4: 30 p.m. Tuesday and took $415 from the cash register.
