Outlook: Mount St. Mary's has won five in a row to reach .500 for the first time since late December. Monday, the Mountaineers defeated Marist, 65-51, behind 13 points from junior C Gerben Van Dorpe and 12 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists from freshman G Gregory Harris. Long Island, which is 6-0 at home, has three of the top five scorers in the Northeast Conference: Junior G Charles Jones (29.4 ppg), junior F Mike Campbell (18.0 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 2.9 spg) and freshman G/F Richie Parker (16.8 ppg). The Blackbirds have won five straight and 10 of 11. Included in that span is a 102-82 victory over the Mount, when Jones scored 44 points and Campbell had 28.

Outlook: Both teams are coming off losses Sunday. Towson State was beaten at home by Drexel, 79-66, despite a career-high 22 points from junior F Derick Newton, and Vermont lost to New Hampshire, 65-61, ending a three-game winning streak. The Tigers have lost three straight and seven of eight. They defeated Vermont in overtime, 92-82, on Jan. 10, getting a disputed basket at the end of regulation from senior G Michael Keyes and dominating the extra session. Junior F Ralph Biggs (17.9 ppg) scored a career-high 32 points. Towson State leads the series, 4-1, winning the past four. Vermont junior Erik Nelson is first in America East in blocked shots (3.2), third in steals (2.0) and fourth in rebounding (9.0). Towson freshman G Raul de Pablo won't play in the next two games because of a cut near his left eye that required stitches.
