Stanford (6-5) vs. Michigan State (6-5)
Site: El Paso, Texas
Time: 2 p.m.
TV: Chs. 13, 9
Line: Michigan State by 7
Players to watch:
Chad Hutchinson, Stanford: Hutchinson has completed 60.9 percent of his passes with 10 TDs and 12 interceptions. He had six TD passes in the Cardinal's last four games.
Sedrick Irvin, Michigan State: Irvin, a freshman, has 18 TDs and combined with senior TB Duane Goulbourne for 1,894 rushing yards. He rushed for 100 yards in five games.
Michigan State 30, Wisconsin 13: The Spartans rolled to their third straight win before losing two of their last three.
Stanford 21, UCLA 20: Chad Hutchinson threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Brian Manning with 58 seconds left as the Cardinal upset the Bruins in the Pac-10.
Outlook: QB Todd Schultz (65 percent completion rate) and WR Derrick Mason (49 receptions) give the Spartans a balanced attack that was second in the Big Ten (416 yards per game). Mason, Irvin and WR Nigea Carter need to make big plays against Stanford's surging defense, which has allowed just 501 yards and 30 points over its last four games. Hutchinson completed 64 percent of his passes down the stretch, and the Cardinal will need that to continue against the Spartans' defense, which is strong against the run.
