Bowie State captures tourney title


Host Bowie State rolled to a 44-point lead at halftime and held West Virginia State to 26 percent shooting on the way to 92-40 victory in last night's championship game of the Best Western Classic.

Tarsha Wilson's 13 points led four Bowie State players in double figures. Brandey Lemons added 11 points for the Bulldogs (7-1), who shot nearly 61 percent in the first half to break open the game.

Vera Carrington paced West Virginia State (1-6) with 12 points and six rebounds.

Kent 88, Coppin State 29: Jenny Kempf's 14 points led Kent (3-5) past Coppin State (0-4) in an opening-round game of the Lady Panther Invitational in Pittsburgh.
