An 88-year-old pedestrian and a 70-year-old father were killed Tuesday in separate car accidents in Anne Arundel County.
The first incident occurred about 3: 20 p.m. in Glen Burnie when a 1991 two-door, light-blue Mercury Cougar traveling west on Aquahart Road near Greenway Road struck a man trying to cross the street.
John J. Mandrin, 88, of the 1000 block of Nancy Road in Glen Burnie was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police did not charge the driver, Robert S. Betz, 22, of the 200 block of E. Woodhill Drive in Glen Burnie.
The second accident occurred at 6: 30 p.m. Tuesday near Fort Meade. Jacqueline J. Albano, 39, of Sterling, Va., was driving a 1989 two-door Mazda sedan and tried to make a U-turn from the northbound lane of Annapolis Road (Route 175) at Llewellyn Avenue.
As she turned, a southbound 1989 GMC Suburban struck the passenger side of the Mazda and pushed it into the curb. Albano's father, Paterno C. Albano, 70, of Big Spring, Texas, was trapped in the car and died at the scene, police said. His daughter suffered minor head and chest injuries and was taken to North Arundel Hospital. She was released yesterday morning. The driver of the truck, Ralph S. Dickenson, 37, of Decorah, Iowa, and his passengers were uninjured. Police were continuing their investigation to determine who was at fault.
