Robber of New Windsor bank is suspect in Mount Airy holdup

A man who robbed New Windsor State Bank on Dec. 12 may be the man who fled Saturday with an undisclosed amount from the NationsBank branch in Mount Airy, police said.

Witnesses described the robber Saturday as white, about 6 feet tall. He has a distinctively long, pointy nose and was wearing sunglasses and a dark knit cap.

As in the New Windsor incident, the man handed a teller a note demanding money Saturday. No weapon was displayed and no one was injured, police said. The same NationsBank branch was robbed Dec. 6, but police do not believe the incidents are related.

The robbery Saturday was the fifth in Mount Airy since March 1995. Frederick County National Bank was hit May 18 and Oct. 16, and First National Bank of Maryland was robbed March 18, 1995.
