Anne Arundel County police were searching yesterday for a carjacker who assaulted a 24-year-old Glen Burnie woman early Saturday in Harundale.

The man, who appeared to be in his late 20s, pulled the woman out of her car after she entered a friend's driveway in the 7500 block of E. Howard Road shortly before 1 a.m., police said. He demanded money, then repeatedly struck her on the head with a handgun and stole her 1988 Ford Escort, police said. The woman required five stitches to the head.

During the attack, a second man acted as a lookout, police said. Gary Nathaniel Cooper, 32, of the 3400 block of Carriage Hill Circle in Baltimore County, who police said was the lookout, was charged with armed carjacking, robbery with a deadly weapon and possession of crack cocaine.

The woman was treated at North Arundel General Hospital in Glen Burnie and released.
