Do-it-yourself: Want to save money on a computer? Try building your own. In an article for Home Office Computing magazine, writer Peter Lewis said he saved $1,000 by building his own PC, and got better and more powerful features than he would have gotten in a prepackaged model bought from a store. But, he warned, "Building a PC from scratch is not for the faint of heart."
Management perks: Some 73 percent of more than 400 executives surveyed by management consultant Runzheimer International reported their company supplied cars and phones to top managers. Half said their company gave executives special parking privileges.
