State court denies appeal by opponents of Redskins stadium

ANNAPOLIS -- A state appeals court rejected an appeal yesterday filed by opponents of a new Washington Redskins stadium near Landover.

The Court of Special Appeals ruled that the Prince George's County Council acted within its authority Feb. 7 when it approved plans to allow construction of a 78,600-seat stadium on a 300-acre tract known as the Wilson Farm.

The ruling affirmed a Prince George's Circuit Court decision last fall that rejected a legal challenge filed by a coalition of 90 civic associations opposed to the project. The team hopes to complete the stadium by August, in time for the 1997 football season.
