County police have charged a 25-year-old woman in a warrant with trying to cash checks taken from her boss's purse.
Melissa Andrea Day, who has no fixed address, was charged with theft and forgery.
The warrant was issued after a woman tried to cash a check at the Provident Bank branch in the 500 block of Ritchie Highway in Severna Park, police said.
Bank teller Sharon Agnes stopped the woman when she tried to cash a $50 check at a drive-through window Saturday morning, because the signature did not match the one on the account even though the woman had provided proper identification, police said.
Agnes called the account holder, Lolita Grube, a manager at a McDonald's restaurant a few yards from the bank. Police said Grube told the teller that the woman at the bank was her employee but that she had not written a check to her.
Grube went to the bank and spoke to the suspect, who Grube said apologized and handed her $20 in another bank's envelope. Grube tried to keep the suspect at the bank until authorities arrived, but she ran away, police said.
