Police arrested two men Wednesday on charges they stole $2,450 worth of jewelry from a Severna Park home where they were cleaning carpets.
Walter Horst Tahedl, 41, of the 300 block of McKay St. in Stevensville and Scott Eric Shepherd, 28, of the 1800 block of Poplar Road in Annapolis were charged with felony theft.
Katherine K. Link, 33, of the Carrollton Manor neighborhood called police to her home about 5 p.m. after she noticed her jewelry was missing. Link told Officer Thomas Powell that she had hidden a pearl necklace, a pair of pearl earrings, and a pearl and diamond ring in her bedroom night stand about 3 p.m., just before two carpet cleaners arrived. She also put an imitation Rolex watch in a dresser in the guest room.
The men spent about an hour and a half cleaning the master bedroom and a guest room while Link was downstairs, then left. A short time later, Link noticed the pearl jewelry in the night stand and the watch were missing. She paged one of the cleaners, who called her and said he was on his way back to the house and told her to call police.
When police arrived, Link began calling pawn shops and found that a man tried to pawn an imitation Rolex at B & A Pawn at Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard and Ritchie Highway about 4: 45 p.m. Jimmy Vogt, the store owner, gave police a description of the man, which matched one of the suspects. Police searched both men and found a diamond and pearl ring.
Annapolis: A thief reached into an occupied restroom stall at J. C. Penney in Annapolis Mall about 1: 30 p.m. Wednesday and stole a purse with cash and a camera together valued at $728.
