Man robs New Windsor bank, walks away Robbery is fifth in county since May

Police are looking for a thin, clean-shaven man with a pointy nose who robbed New Windsor State Bank yesterday.

Witnesses told police that the man walked away with an undisclosed amount of money in a small zippered case, heading toward Westminster on Route 31.

State police, who arrived at the bank about two minutes after the 12: 12 p.m. robbery, did not find the man, who was described as white, 30 years old and about 6 feet tall. Witnesses said he wore a heavy red plaid shirt, a dark knit hat and dark circular sunglasses.

No customers were in the bank at 213 Main St. at the time of the robbery and no bank employees were injured, police said.

Bank employees told FBI and state police investigators that the robber approached one of two tellers and gave her a handwritten note to announce the robbery. He did not display a weapon, police said.

The robbery was the fifth in Carroll County since May, including four at three banks in Mount Airy.

A Baltimore man faces charges of twice robbing Frederick County National Bank in Mount Airy, May 18 and Oct. 16, court records show.

Police believe two men who robbed Carroll County Bank and Trust Co. branch office in Mount Airy on Aug. 28 are from the Washington area, where several banks were robbed in similar fashion.

Last week, police filed an arrest warrant for a former Mount Airy man in a robbery at the NationsBank branch office in Mount Airy on Dec. 6.
