Representatives of the Bowie Baysox left baseball's winter meetings still waiting to determine their status in the Triple-A expansion picture.
Peter Kirk, chief executive officer of Maryland Baseball Inc., which owns the Baysox, said the Triple-A committee has offered one 1998 team to Durham, N.C., and listened to a new bid from Memphis, Tenn.
"They sent us back with a number of questions. We have to meet with the Orioles and hopefully, in 30 days, this will all be resolved," said Kirk. "It has to be."
Kirk will not accept a Triple-A team in Bowie unless it is affiliated with the Orioles, who have one season left on their agreement with longtime affiliate Rochester. Kirk's Double-A team in Bowie and Single-A teams in Frederick and Salisbury are in the Orioles' system.
"I'd rather not go into the details," he said. "We've had numerous meetings and discussions, and we're still in the hunt."
