So, if you were Martha Stewart and you were putting together a holiday special on how to spruce up Christmas at your house, who'd you have on as guests? If you said a pig, the NBA's reigning superstar supreme and a guy who plays a disheveled, alcoholic, tough-guy cop on TV's raciest show, you and Martha must be operating on the same wavelength.
"The Rosie O'Donnell Show" (4 p.m.-5 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- Proving that persistence pays off, after months of pleading, cajoling and whining, Rosie finally lands a visit from Tom Cruise. Of course, it helps that he's got a movie to plug.
"Martha Stewart's 1996 Holiday Special: Welcome Home for the Holidays" (8 p.m.-9 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- Renowned homebodies Michael Jordan, Miss Piggy and Dennis Franz join Martha for what promises to be a warm, fuzzy evening filled with ideas on how to make your home even more special for the holidays.
"Frasier" (9 p.m.-9: 30 p.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- What happens when you get a present from someone and you really hate it? That's the dilemma Frasier faces tonight, when Martin (John Mahoney, this series' secret weapon) gives his highfalutin' son a piece of art. NBC.
"Christmas in My Hometown" (9 p.m.-11 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- Tim Matheson is a corporate mucky-muck sent to downsize a factory -- which means layoffs, not the best way to commemorate the holidays. But he meets his match when the factory employees include Melissa Gilbert, with whom he falls in love instead. CBS.
"Spin City" (9: 30 p.m.-10 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- The mayor of New York City eulogizes a police dog. CBS.
"Caroline in the City" (9: 30 p.m.-10 p.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- Richard gets a job in a department store (at Christmastime? sounds potentially laughter-filled), while Annie gets a visit from her mom. NBC.
"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (11: 35 p.m.-12: 35 a.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, yuks it up with Jay. NBC.
"Diamonds are Forever" (8: 05 p.m.-10: 40 p.m., TBS) -- Sean Connery as 007 is out to stop the nefarious Blofeld, who has designs on cornering the world diamond market and launching a jewel-powered killer satellite. Keep an eye on the supporting cast for Lana Wood, sister of Natalie, whose Hollywood career never quite got off the ground.
"Amazing America" (8: 30 p.m.-9 p.m., repeats 11: 30 p.m.-midnight, Learning Channel) -- Cavalry soldiers, Sioux Indians and even a group of society ladies gather to re-enact Custer's Last Stand. Let's hope more people walk away this time.
"I Dream of Jeannie" (12: 30 a.m.-1 a.m., Nickelodeon) -- Major Nelson declares he'll never marry Jeannie. Bad move (hard to understand, too).
