Third suspect is arrested in severe beating of man

The third of three suspects in the severe beating of a Hampstead man in October is being held on $50,000 bail at the Carroll County Detention Center.

Steven N. Shorter, 20, of Reisterstown, was arrested Saturday on charges of assault and conspiring with two teen-agers to assault Larry Crawford of Hampstead on Oct. 22.

Police said Crawford was lured to a residence in the 900 block of S. Main St., where he was assaulted, then abandoned bleeding in the street.

Two teen-age boys were arrested in October and are awaiting trial.

Fire

Hampstead: Firefighters responded at 9: 33 p.m. Friday for a carbon monoxide alarm in the 1200 block of N. Main St. Units were out 17 minutes.
