Two charged in assault on woman

County police charged two men Friday with robbery and assault in an attack on a Millersville woman who was dragged across a convenience store parking lot in Severna Park.

Fred Lamar Darby, 28, of the 100 block of Woods Way in Pasadena and Steven Brian Brandt, 26, of the 8300 block of Brookwood Road in Millersville were charged with robbery and first-degree assault.

The woman, Donna W. Sweet, 58, sustained a bloody nose.

Sweet told police she was walking to the front of the 7-Eleven in the 400 block of Benfield Road about 6: 45 a.m. when she saw a man standing at the side of the building.

He and another man ran toward Sweet, threw her to the ground and dragged her across the parking lot as they snatched her purse from her shoulder, police said.

The bandits ran to a blue 1984 Nissan pickup parked at an adjacent shopping center. Sweet chased the suspects, observed part of the truck license plate and called police.

A short while later, Officer Mark Robey stopped a truck fitting the description on Veterans Highway near Brightview Drive. Sweet later identified the two men inside as her attackers, police said.

Brandt led police to Rock Ridge Road and Black Angus Court, where officers recovered the contents of the purse.
