Three firefighters were injured and an apartment was extensively damaged in a two-alarm fire in Taneytown Saturday evening, firefighters said yesterday.
The fire, in a second-floor rear apartment in the first block of York St., was reported about 4 p.m. It was thought to be extinguished but flared up about 10: 30 p.m. Saturday before it was put out finally about midnight, said Lt. Jeff Stitely of Taneytown Volunteer Fire Department.
The blaze, which was contained to the apartment, was extinguished by firefighters from Carroll and Frederick counties and Pennsylvania, he said.
The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire are under investigation by state fire marshals, Stitely said.
Firefighter Michael Hahn of Littlestown, Pa., suffered an eye injury and was taken to Gettysburg Hospital.
Firefighter George Wentz of Taneytown had trouble breathing and Firefighter Pam Brooks of Taneytown complained of chest pains; both were taken to Carroll County General Hospital, said Lt. Glenn Haines of the Fire Department.
All were treated and released Saturday, Haines said.
