Do-it-yourself repairs 'Home Fair' at the JCC
Comprehensive Housing Assistance Inc. (CHAI) is holding a free "Home Fair" to teach homeowners to save money by learning to do their own repairs. The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Jewish Community Center, 5700 Park Heights Ave.
Participants can receive instructions on plumbing, painting, flooring, drywall, decorating, landscaping, exterior improvements, weatherization and basement waterproofing. Information also will be available on loans and financing, avoiding unscrupulous contractors, lead paint dangers, home safety and reverse mortgages.

Nonprofit housing group NHS is given $15,000
Neighborhood Housing Services of Baltimore Inc., a private, nonprofit group offering counseling, low-interest loans and other homeownership programs, has received a $15,000 contribution
from USAA to continue its neighborhood revitalization efforts in Baltimore and Baltimore County.
"We hope this contribution will help NHS of Baltimore advance its goals of increasing homeownership rates in its targeted communities," said Gloria Craven, an assistant vice president with USAA, the nation's fourth largest homeowners insurer.
Earlier this year, Neighborhood Housing Services received $1 million from USAA to provide loans to first-time low- and moderate-income homebuyers. "USAA has become a significant partner in our work," said Elizabeth Wright, NHS board of directors chairman.

Long & Foster Realtors is underwriting the Maryland Public Television presentation of "Three Sopranos," scheduled to air from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and noon to 2 p.m. next Sunday. The company also is underwriting the 50th anniversary presentation of Handel's "Messiah," performed at the U.S. Naval Academy and starring James Morris of the Metropolitan Opera, airing at 9 p.m. Dec. 23.
Shelter Development Corp. of Baltimore has begun a $25 million, two-year renovation of Woodland Springs Apartments, a post-World War II veterans housing complex in District Heights, Prince George's County. The 908 one- and two-bedroom units will be converted into 506 larger units.

Century 21 Anthony-Gavern Realtors said Yvette D. Adesuyi joined the Arnold company as a sales associate. Adesuyi is a member of the Anne Arundel County Association of Realtors.
Coldwell Banker Grempler Realty said Tom O'Hara, Gina Barnes, Lisa Miller, Kathy Sigmund, Michael Nazzaro and Jim Geyer joined the Phoenix office as sales associates.
Community Realty Company Inc. appointed James R. Teller director of marketing and J. Clark Melillo director of engineering for the Greenbelt firm. Before joining Community, Teller spent eight years as a landscape architect with Post Properties Inc. of Atlanta. Melillo previously worked for Johnson Controls Inc.
Gilbert D. Marsiglia & Co. said Wayne S. Davis joined the Lutherville firm as a sales associate. Davis is a member of the Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors, the Maryland Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
Mid-Atlantic Title Company named Mary Lou Gregg executive vice president of the Towson firm. Gregg started with Mid-Atlantic as a loan processor when the firm began in 1986. She is a graduate of Villa Julie College.
River Downs Partnership, a division of Gaylord Brooks Realty Inc., appointed Pauline S. Davis sales manager for River Downs, a 500-acre golf course community in Carroll County. A certified buyer's broker, Davis is a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Maryland Historical Society.
The Ryland Group Inc. announced the promotion of Larry Cates RTC vice president of land resources for the company's Baltimore homebuilding division. Cates is a graduate of the Naval Academy and spent seven years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is a member of Leadership Howard County and the National Investor Relations Institute. Cates' duties as director of investor relations will be assumed by Vice President Susan Cass, who is also responsible for financial planning. Cass has a degree in business administration from the College of William and Mary. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Tax Executives.
