Home-based workers group to hold open house
The Home-Based Workers' Network will have an open house from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Westminster Library, 50 E. Main St.
Members will display their products and services. Participants include Achievers Unlimited, Almost Metal Spinning, American Communications Network, Barber Information Technologies, Butterfly Inn, Elder Independence, Heartbeats Inc., Nancy Kelly CPA, Smallville Graphics, Wood Spirits and US Mortgage Reduction.
Entrepreneurs looking for new business or additional diversification, or businesses looking to expand on a small budget, can find information at the open house.
Retired banker wins 'Good Scout Award'
The Boy Scouts of America Carroll District will honor retired banker Joseph Beaver at its annual Good Scout Award Breakfast Wednesday at Wakefield Valley Golf and Conference Center.
Award recipients are chosen for exemplifying the ideals of the Boy Scouts and for their outstanding community service to various organizations.
Beaver retired from Union National Bank earlier this year as president. He still serves on the bank's board of directors.
A lifelong resident of the county, he also is active with Carroll County General Hospital and Health Services, CHANGE Inc., United Way of Central Maryland and Westminster Rotary Club.
Financial planning help for Farm Credit members
American Express Financial Advisors Inc. and Central Maryland Farm Credit ACA have announced that American Express will provide financial planning services and products to Farm Credit members in Carroll County.
Serving the county at Central Maryland Farm Credit from American Express will be Joe Cinquino, a member of the advanced planner group and a Westminster resident.
Farm Credit provides credit and related services to farmers, ranchers and rural residents in eight counties.
Taneytown Bank & Trust to open Gettysburg branch
Taneytown Bank & Trust Co. has been given final regulatory approval to open the bank's first Pennsylvania office in Gettysburg.
The branch is scheduled to open tomorrow at 545 W. Middle St.
Frank Neubauer Jr., the bank's president and chief executive officer, said "this facility will be primarily a business development office, capitalizing on our strengths in commercial lending, mortgages and business trust services."
Heading the Gettysburg business development effort will be Thomas J. Gerhart, a longtime Pennsylvania resident and banker. He has a master's degree from the University of Delaware.
Taneytown Bank operates 10 branches in Carroll, Howard and Baltimore counties.
