Two schools damaged by fire and graffiti

Two Savage schools were damaged by fire and graffiti early Friday, and Howard County police believe two boys seen running from the area are to blame.

Bollman Bridge Elementary School in the 8200 block of Savage Guilford Road and Patuxent Valley Middle School in the 9100 block of Vollmerhausen Road each suffered about $1,000 worth of damage after plastic recycling bins on the schools' loading docks and a trash bin were burned, said Lt. Ken Byerly, a Howard County fire spokesman.

Both schools were vandalized with paint and with obscenities on walls.

Two boys were seen running from the schools about 12: 20 a.m., police said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal's office.

Three men arrested in prostitution sting

Howard County police arrested three men Thursday night in a prostitution sting at Truckers Inn on Assateague Drive in Jessup.

David Howard Crews, 29, of Amelia, Va.; Eric Richard Barlow, 32, of the 1300 block of Chapelview Road in Odenton; and Troy Lee Williams, 30, of Slidell, La., were charged with solicitation for prostitution, police said.

Crews also was charged with a handgun violation.

About 10 p.m., a plainclothes female police officer walked along Assateague Drive in front of the truck stop. She was solicited to perform sexual acts for money, ranging from $10 to $20, charging documents show.

Crews was released on $2,500 bond, and Williams and Barlow were released on personal recognizance.
