Coach Moe Mantha won't be looking for the world tonight at 7 when the Bandits engage the Philadelphia Phantoms in a preseason game at Piney Orchard Ice Arena.
"Work ethic, doing well in the one-on-one battles and getting a line on who can play in this league [the AHL] are the important things," he said.
"Good thing," piped assistant coach Mike Gibbons. "They [the Phantoms] have a heck of a veteran team and you know they're mad at us for having eliminated them from the playoffs last year."
On Wednesday, the Flyers assigned 25 players to the Phantoms -- the best players in Hershey last season, plus excellent pickups that include Steven King, who scored 40 goals for the Bandits.
NOTES: The Bandits' working agreement with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks shows the NHL team providing 15 players, meaning Baltimore will be looking to sign three more free agents to AHL contracts. The Ducks also will place players with a couple of International Hockey League teams, thus the Bandits' MVP last season, goalie Mike O'Neill, and veteran defenseman Oleg Mikulchik will play in Long Beach, Calif.
