An Anne Arundel sheriff's deputy has filed a $6 million suit in Circuit Court alleging that he was fired from his second job, moonlighting as a security guard at the Sears, Roebuck & Co. store in Glen Burnie, because he accused a store manager of theft.
Edward L. Wholey of the 7700 block of Baggins Road, Hanover, says he was fired Feb 6. after 24 years at the store in the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway. He was appointed manager of store security in about 1980, the suit says.
The suit alleges that Wholey saw a store manager take a tie, two T-shirts and a cordless telephone over several months in 1995 RTC and that he wanted to install security cameras in the manager's office to see if other items were being stolen.
But his complaints to management fell on deaf ears, and store managers told him in January that they didn't want him working at the store "because of his cop mentality," according to the suit
A spokesman for the store chain declined to comment.
