Clemens threatens to sit out last start

Boston Red Sox right-hander Roger Clemens, who was honored before last night's Orioles game with a banner at Fenway Park commemorating his second 20-strikeout game, has threatened to sit out his final start if the team is eliminated from playoff contention.

Clemens' contract expires at the end of the season. His threat comes after consultations with his agents and friends.

Clemens, 34, who has spent his entire 13-year career in Boston and is seeking a four-year contract, said he's doing nothing the team wouldn't do in the same situation.

"I think everyone understands the position I am in," said Clemens, who has won six of his last seven decisions. "I have nothing to gain if we have nothing to gain and if the shoe was on the other foot, they would tell me to shut it down and get it ready for next year."
