Federal grant targets drunken driving in Md.

THE BALTIMORE SUN

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Federico F. Pena announced yesterday a $412,867 grant to the Maryland Department of Transportation to assist with the implementation of tough programs against drunken driving.

Under the Section 410 program, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides grants to states that have aggressive drunken driving prevention programs, such as a statewide program for stopping motor vehicles, enforcing laws against the sale of alcohol to minors and establishing self-sustaining programs against drunken driving.

"Maryland is making excellent progress against drunken driving, and these funds are added resources to help reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes," Pena said.
