ELMONT, N.Y. -- With dreadful weather forecast the next three days, trainer Bill Mott said yesterday that Maryland-bred Cigar might sit out the $500,000, 1 1/8 -mile Woodward on Saturday at Belmont Park rather than run over what could be a sloppy track.
"I haven't decided yet," Mott said. "I wouldn't be looking forward to it. There are different types of wet tracks and it would depend on what kind of wet track."
Cigar, whose 16-race winning streak ended Aug. 10, has won on a wet track before, including a victory in the mud last year at Belmont in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
With a dry track underfoot yesterday, Cigar had his final Woodward workout, going five furlongs in 1 minute, 4/5 of a second.
