Burglary suspect's arrest also results in drug charges

County police who went to arrest a Glen Burnie man on burglary charges Tuesday said they added drug charges after finding marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his room.

Michael James Sears, 20, of the 300 block of Klagg Court was wanted in a break-in Monday at Southgate Elementary School. He also was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police investigating the burglary of a trailer at the school, in the 200 block of Shetlands Lane, were told that a man kicked in the window to the portable classroom about 1: 30 p.m. and handed items from inside the trailer to another person, county police said.

Police who arrested Sears at his mother's house said they found a pipe in plain view in his bedroom and a wooden box containing an alligator clip and what later tested positive for marijuana.

Severn man is arrested after scuffle with officers

A Severn man was arrested Monday on drug charges after a scuffle with police on the B&A; Trail.

Larry Bushon Long, 23, of the 8100 block of Meade Village Road was charged with possession of marijuana, possession and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, assault with intent to avoid lawful apprehension, battery, trespassing and giving police a false statement.

Police said Cpl. Mike Belcher and Officer Eric A. Gennett were on patrol on the trail near Aquahart Road shortly before 9 p.m. when they saw a man with an open bottle of beer. Police said he gave a false name after he was arrested for being on the trail after dark and drinking alcohol.

The officers searched him and found 13 vials of what later tested positive for crack cocaine. As they tried to handcuff the man, he shoved Belcher and began to run.

After more scuffling, the man ran south on the trail. Gennett got on his bicycle and followed the man as he ran into the woods.

Police said the man ran into a metal fence and fell again. Police caught the man, searched him and found a bag of what later tested positive for marijuana.
