Man accused of raping his live-in girlfriend

A Mount Airy man accused of raping and threatening to kill his live-in girlfriend last month was arrested without incident at his home Wednesday night, state police said.

The 33-year-old man, who is not being identified to protect the privacy of the woman, is being held without bail at the Carroll County Detention Center, court records show. He has requested a public defender to represent him at an Oct. 3 preliminary hearing in Carroll County District Court.

In a statement of charges on first-degree rape, false imprisonment, assault, battery and assault by threat, state police said they were called to Frederick Memorial Hospital on Aug. 3.

The woman was treated for cuts to her arm and hand, and police say they saw bruises on her arms, hands and thigh.

The woman told officers that her boyfriend became abusive the evening before and accused her of dating his brother.

The woman said the argument escalated and she left for a friend's house nearby.

She said her boyfriend followed her, and police were called to break up the dispute.

The woman told state police that she went home about midnight to spend the night in the garage, where her boyfriend found her. She told investigators that she was dragged inside and raped twice between midnight and 6 a.m. Aug. 3.
